Weston's Big Boy Room: Part I

The Part I:

The Big Boy Bed

We began what is sure to be numerous changes/transitions this past Saturday. Our amazing friends - and quite generous, I might add - the Di Bartolo's gave us a twin bed that they had. All it needed was the hardware to put it together, but other than that, it is perfect.

We were a bit nervous moving Weston from his crib to a twin - he just does so well in his crib that we didn't really want to mess with such a good thing.  But seeing as we are going to be needing the crib here in a few months, we figured it was time to start the transition to his 'Big Boy' room. We wanted to make sure we did it well before the baby came so that Weston didn't feel like he was being evicted because of the new baby.
So we made sure to involve him in the whole process - he "helped" load in the new bed, "helped" take the crib apart (he was very interested in this part)...
and he "helped" daddy put the big boy bed together. He was very inquisitive - "What doing Mommy?" "What's that?" - and any time he seemed concerned or sad about his crib being taken apart we'd just explain that we need the room to put up his new big boy bed. That seemed to fix everything.
We had his bed set up just in time for his nap time, so we figured it was time to try it out and see how it went down. Tyler and I figured it would take a few days at least before Weston would adjust to the change - and he wouldn't climb out of bed over and over again just because he knew he could get out now. So we were both pleasantly surprised when he stayed put right from the start. Even once he's up he will wait for either Tyler or me to come up and get him. What a funny little kid.

First sleep in his big boy bed...
There's still quite a bit of work to be done to Weston's room, but they are all just cosmetic - the real change for him was getting in this new bed. And we are so thankful and happy that it was a seamless transition. Weston loves his new big boy bed - and I love not having to bend over to put him in his crib with my big belly and aching back!
