The Brown Family: A Very Hungry Caterpillar

Right before Harrison was born I found a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar at a garage sale. I instantly snatched it up, and for the past year or so we've read that book at least once a day. So it was only natural that we should throw Harrison a Very Hungry Caterpillar birthday. I mean, he is after all, just like the little caterpillar in the book: eating, and eating, and eating.

My mom made Harrison a birthday shirt for his party.

And we decorated the house using lots of colors, just like in the book.

We made his cake to look like the hungry caterpillar - the head was for Harrison, his smash cake, and we all ate the green cupcakes.

The food for the party was all from the book.

Instead of ice cream cones (I wasn't sure how to keep them frozen during the party), I dipped Nutter Butters into white chocolate and then added sprinkles on top.

My mom has four mason jars with fake butterflies in them. You can turn them on and the butterflies flutter around inside.

Harrison was up the whole night of his birthday cutting yet another tooth. So naturally the time he finally decides to fall asleep is an hour before his party starts. So we let him sleep as long as possible, but then Tyler had to get him up.

(Side note: How great is it that my boys get to spend their birthdays with both Grandmas?!)

Getting ready to eat some lunch. And Harrison lived up to his party theme: he was a very hungry caterpillar. He ate, and ate, and ate.

After food then came presents... Lots and lots of presents.

After all the presents were opened it was time for cake. I think we were all anxious to see how Harrison would go about eating his smash cake. Weston was very cautious and meticulous about digging into his cake - which sort of fits with his personality. Harrison, on the other hand, dug right in - no hesitation - which totally fits Harrison's personality.
