We've begun the Board and Batten treatment in our front room... we are definitely novice DIYers. We are learning as we go...and it didn't help that the weekend we decide to start was also the weekend that Weston became super sick. Needless to say, we didn't get much started... But here's where we're at.
This is one wall in our dining room before:
Tyler, being the engineer that he is, wanted everything mapped out. I, being the creative mind (and also a little bit lazy) wanted to just get things started and start gluing paneling to the wall...
Tyler won. Here's the lines we measured out and drew on the wall...
The first panelboard up. We are taking off all the baseboards off and putting the panel board behind the baseboards. We have builder basic baseboards - 1/4inch wide. To put panel board and the vertical boards up would be too wide and would hang off the end of the baseboards. So in an effort to not have to replace all of our baseboards, we are having to go the more labor intensive route.
We also ended up having to use our table and ottoman to help keep the board flush with the wall.
And here is as far as we were able to get. Two panel boards up. Once we pulled out the baseboard in the front room we discovered that the sub-floor in the carpeted areas is a half inch lower than in the dining room... that lead to a whole different set of dramas.
Some shims and sheer will got that board up on the wall... It was some good times. (Oh, and don't get me started on how we made the openings for the outlets... those we had to slowly whittle them out by hand. DUMB.)
Hopefully we can make some more head way over the long weekend... I'm not a fan of living in a house in this condition...
